Through Noir 'N Nola, Cierra educates New Orleanians on our tumultuous history and honor legends of our city's past. Her aim with her platform is to preserve the Black narrative and make sure Black people are at the forefront of telling our own stories. The city is better because of people like Cierra who are Champions of Black Excellence.

Demond Meloncon is a contemporary artist with extensive roots in the Black Masking Culture of New Orleans. With a career spanning almost three decades, Melancon is well-known for his meticulous hand-sewn beadwork used to create massive Mardi Gras Indian suits which are composed of intricately beaded patches depicting actual and imagined events from African and American history. His complex and multidimensional portrayals draw inspiration from indigenous people in America, enslaved Africans, and inspirational leaders from history. His work draws from a broad variety of stylistic influences, features imagery rich with symbolism and meaning, addresses stereotypical representations of Black people, and tells powerful stories from his experience of the African diaspora. - Bio and photo from demondmelcon.com

Chef Rena Ray is the proud owner of her own pastry business, S.S. Sweets and her work has not only gotten her recognized by @larry_morrow , but she had the opportunity to collaborate with him and serve up her mini king cakes at his restaurant @morrowsnola !
She is also a strong advocate for mental health, and was featured in the #MadeTogether series, which works to amplify BIPOC voices in the hospitality industry and focuses on the importance of support systems. “Being in a constant state of gratitude will put you at a higher vibrational frequency and more blessings will come your way” - a sentiment that Chef Rena Ray continues to personify.

DJ Johnson opened NOLA Art Bar right before the pandemic caused the world to shut down. His business survived however due to Johnson adapting to turn the lounge into a bar that also served food.

Black-owned businesses have been hit hard in New Orleans. We want to shout out everyone working through the difficulties and adversity to stay open and keep the culture alive in this city.

After delivering her inspiring and hopeful poem "The Hill We Climb," Amanda was invited to deliver the --first ever-- poem before the Super Bowl this past weekend in which she paid homage to 3 honorary captains and Healthcare Heroes.

We honor Amanda Gorman today, and all the Amanda Gormans everywhere, whose voices deserve to be heard and uplifted, and whose faces deserve to be seen.

2020 has been quite a difficult year, to say the least.

During times of grief and sorrow, our natural instincts are to come together in unity to promote a community of love and support. However, the presence of the pandemic has made it quite difficult to do so, BUT not impossible.

Although we were physically apart, we came together to support, inspire, and grieve with each other.
